Fast and Furious

We went to the Frankfurt Auto Show this past weekend. Get ready for some awesome-ness to follow...
One of TEN show rooms this size

If you're wondering, "Is that car made completely of carbon fiber?" The answer is yes.

Two things about this picture:
1) SICK BMW
2) That's a car runway behind it, and we were sitting in the viewing area. Like a fashion show of speed.

Break time...beer from a barrel and crepes
We'll have one soon! Can't wait!!

Fall Festivities!

Last night, Brian and I went to Frankfurt's Autumn Dippemess, which is an annual fair to celebrate fall. They had some great rides and all of the wonderful German treats - bratwurst, pommes frites (french fries), crepes, and sugar nuts! Because it was the last night of the festival, they also had a fireworks display. Just before the fireworks started, Brian came up with a great idea...and I quote: "Let's get sugar nuts and ride the ferris wheel and watch the fireworks!" It really was the most genius idea ever. We were eye-level with the fireworks, and we could see the Frankfurt skyline in the distance. I've never watched fireworks from the sky, but it is definitely something I would recommend! I couldn't stop smiling the entire time.

Then, as we were heading back to the U-bahn (subway), we heard club music and lots of jubilant screaming, so of course we needed to check it out. I never would have expected what I saw next (at what had appeared to be a very kid-friendly festival) - a dude on stage dancing in tiny skin-tight leather shorts! There was a male strip show going on at an autumn fair! I found it quite hilarious.

It was a great night, and the best beginning of autumn I've ever experienced!

Celebration Dinner!

To celebrate an extra good week at work, Brian took me out for a nice dinner! We went to a steakhouse in our neighborhood called Surf and Turf. Though initially deterred by the cheesy name, the excellent Google rating encouraged us to test the joint. It was a chilly evening, so we bundled up and enjoyed a brisk walk through the city. The restaurant was beautiful, and the steaks were delicious! It was our first fancy dinner since we've arrived, and we really enjoyed it.

I was sitting right next to the spiral stairs to the basement, and Brian kept worrying that I would fall down them. It crossed my mind a couple of times to fake a big fall, just to freak him out. I don't think the Germans we were sitting next to would have found it funny, though.

Ich bin satt!

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday.

"Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday. We're uh, gonna go to Home Depot, yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond I don't know. I don't know if we'll have enough time." -Will Ferrell, Old School

On our first Saturday in Germany, Brian and I painted. It was pretty rainy outside, though, so it was a perfect "home improvement" day!

As you can see, our apartment was ALL white when we moved in. Very sterile and not home-y. Painting the whole living/dining area really made a difference! We also rolled up the carpets to reveal some great wood floors. We liked our apartment before, but now we just love it and can't wait for our furniture to arrive! It feels more like home.

Our apartment in the middle of our prep for painting! What a mess...but the picnic was fun!

Remind you of a hospital??

Ahh! So much better with painted walls and no carpet! (None of this furniture is ours - it's just temporary until our stuff arrives)

And I think our kitchen looks much better without the curtains and WITH our new mini ficus!

Our First Day in Germany

We finally arrived in Frankfurt this morning! Brian and I have been looking forward to this move for a long time now, and we are thrilled to be here. The flight over was great - Brian scored exit row seats which meant tons of leg room for me (and adequate leg room for Bri)! We were dropped off at our new home to freshen up and unpack. Our two bedroom apartment is spacious and perfect for us. It's a little bland right now, but we'll fix it up when our shipments arrive. Until then, we will be using government issued furniture and appliances. We also enjoyed our first walk to the U.S. Consulate. It was a beautiful day. Day One in our new life in Germany was a great success!

Our apartment building - we're on the third floor

Our Kitchen - the curtains will be taken down pronto : ) There is a GREAT pantry in this kitchen - I'm pumped!

Our bathroom - there's actually a great linen closet that you can't see in the picture that adds excellent storage space to the bathroom
Morgan, Tell Zach that we have TWO toothbrush holders in this bathroom to make guests feel at home : )
