Memorial Day Weekend Camp Trip

To celebrate Memorial Day weekend, Brian and I decided to go camping and rock climbing. There's a famous climbing area about 2.5 hours away from Frankfurt called Frankenjura, so we decided to check it out. Finding a place in Germany to camp without a trailer isn't the easiest thing to do, but we found Gasthof Eichler where we could set up our tent. The other trick to our weekend was packing our camping gear, climbing gear, and personal stuff all in the motorcycle! We spent Friday evening planning our packing strategy, and we were able to make it all fit without a problem!

On Saturday morning, the weather didn't look promising - rain was in the forecast. But we were determined to give the trip a try! We've learned that rain is almost always in the forecast here in Germany, so we decided to think positive and hope for the best. The motorcycle ride was great, and we arrived at our camp site to find that a lot of other people were thinking positive, too : ) It encouraged us - maybe the weather will be good after all! So we set up our tent and got our gear all in order. Soup was on the menu for dinner, and it was prepared quickly and efficiently with our MSR stove.

Then we sat back and enjoyed a relaxing evening outside! As you can see in this picture below, the skies weren't looking too bad!


But, right after we put our rain fly over the tent and got everything under cover (just in case it rained that night), clouds started to roll in. It rained almost all night, which didn't bother us TOO much since we had everything covered. But when we woke up the next morning, we heard from a local that it was supposed to rain all day Sunday. We stayed until about noon, and when it didn't look like the rain was going to quit, we decided to pack up. Oh well, we tried! We definitely plan on going back so that we can do some climbing.

Because Monday was still rainy, we made a trip to a local spa called Taunus Therme. We spent the day relaxing in their indoor pools and lounge areas. If you can't camp, you might as well PAMPer yourself : ) Right? Not funny? I can rhyme.
